H10 Imperial Tarraco, Tarragona

Spot on location with great sea views too

We booked our stay directly with the hotel. It was very easy to get a taxi outside Reus airport when we arrived, for 40 (took less than 30 mins). Hotel is in a lovely location with great views including the amphitheatre over the road. We were on the 5th floor and had requested a sea view, it certainly was that! Bear in mind if you've booked fizz and chocolates as a surprise gift on your arrival to your room, they don't actually deliver them until 4pm (we had to wait so the surprise was a bit lost). Regarding the amphitheatre, definitely worth a visit for only 5 (or 15 for all the 6 sites around town). There was also the option to rent VR headsets to wear while you walk around the bottom area of the amphitheatre, certainly worth 7 as they've created a fairly realistic CGI of what it would have looked like, complete with "plebs", gladiators, elephants, crocodiles and rhinos! Also definitely worth visiting is the Circ rom de Tarraco, which is vast and has a tunnel underneath one of the terraced roads above. The views once you get to the top are outstanding so worth the steps up! The hotel has a good selection at breakfast, which changes a bit daily; lots of breads, cakes and pastries, plus cold meats, cheese and fruit, and hot food too. There's 3 coffee machines so you can help yourself to a variety. The staff are excellent, always smiling and clearing plates quickly. Everywhere is very clean and tidy. The interiors have obviously been thoughtfully designed; large airy spaces filled with a range of contemporary furniture and artworks, giving the hotel a homely but modern feel. The pool isn't the biggest but it's fine for the amount of people, with nice pool towels too (which you can also take to the beach if required). There's a very small pool for paddling or for smaller kids... There's a food truck open daily by the pool, check the opening hours, but isn't always staffed. It sells food and drinks and you need your room card or debit card to pay. The Sangria is nice, as is the rosé wine, and the draft beer too. The nearest beach which is in front of the hotel is Miracle, and is a 10-15 minute walk but has no bars/food options (when we were there). The next beach along is Arrabassada, a 20-25 minute walk, which was our favourite, with 2 beach bars, we preferred the slightly further one which had good food offerings and friendly service. Both beaches were really clean and surprisingly empty! Shallow warm water, with showers and toilet huts. We got a bus to the Llarga beach further up the coast, but wouldn't recommend it, as it wasn't as clean and had no toilets, however there were a few different bar offerings and the one large restaurant where we ate at was nice. The bus was easy enough though if you want to explore a bit. None of the beaches we visited had beds or brollies for hire however. Wherever you eat in Tarragona try the Tuna belly, and also the Octopus leg/foot. Super tasty dishes and a local speciality. The hotel rooftop restaurant offers the Octopus, which was delicious, with great views too. Also try Braseria Taula Rodona for great Wagyu and also Tabularium is a great bar for a drink in Plaa del Forum. La Morada for Paella (and great music vibes!) is just off this same square. The hotel is near the train station, where you can get direct trains to Barcelona. You also have the option to easily explore the old town, Parte Alta, or the newer part, La Rambla Nova etc, by foot. Go and explore. We did both, lots to see and do, and very local city full of locals going about their business. We loved Tarragona and would certainly visit again, and would likely stay at this hotel again, mostly for it's location and views. The reception staff were generally very friendly but a bit vague when we asked details about the annual Nomad festival which was held directly outside the hotel. Would have expected them to be a bit more informed. Rooms were tidied and beds made daily, but floors weren't mopped surprisingly, with bedding being changed only weekly. The toiletries were good quality, and fixed to the wall, topped up as needed, better for less waste. Even though we were near the road, the soundproofing was excellent, and we didn't hear the lift either. Our balcony also had a pull out clothes drier, but bring your own pegs! Balcony was large, with comfy chairs to relax in. Beware if you don't like heights as the balcony railings are just that, rather than a screen...!

Amazing Hotel

This was our first time in Tarragona and at this hotel and neither disappointed. It is a stunningly beautiful hotel, with lovely staff and always immaculately clean. We had a mare room which overlooked the amphitheater and beach. We chose the right week as there was a firework competition and we had a VIP view from our balcony each night. Breakfast was excellent with a wide range of choices. There are 2 pools - the roof terrace one gave fabulous views. Fab location as you could walk everywhere from the hotel and Tarragona is very Spanish but looks Roman. We loved it - can't wait to go back!

Friendly Staff

When I arrived, the front desk staff made me feel really welcome with a smile and a lovely welcome cocktail. Check-in was quick and easy and the gentlemen at the reception was very helpful, giving me great recommendations for places to visit in Tarragona and some good local restaurants. The Hotel itself is beautiful and the rooftop bar has amazing views and relaxed atmosphere. Overall, I had a fantastic stay and will be coming back.

Another great stay !

I always look forward to staying at the H10 Imperial Tarraco and this year's visit was as expected. It's a great hotel in a super location and it's new and modern. Although there was a slight mixup when I checked in as the room which I had booked was not available but this was soon rectified the next morning very professionally. The rooms are holding up well, slight wear and tear as you would expect but they are spacious and well appointed. The views from your balcony make the trip worthwhile. The bed is clean and very, very comfortable, the blackout blinds work very well and it is a great hotel to stay in. Plenty of wardrobe space and complimentary water which was replaced every day ( a smaller size to last year) Breakfast is varied and great. Plenty of choice of everything and some which I am not sure about - carrots or cauliflower for breakfast ? The choice of cakes and pastries continues to amaze me even though I do not have an especially sweet tooth. You will not leave the breakfast room hungry. They do clear away at 10.30 so don't be late. The rooftop pool are is a lovely place to relax and sun bathe or have a drink. The downstairs pool area never got very busy. There are pool towels available in the hamper by the sun loungers. All of the staff are great, helpful yet friendly and welcoming, nothing is too much. There is plenty of places nearby to eat, drink and shop nearby. The bus stop for buses 11 or 12 to the beaches is right outside the hotel so you are very well situated. The main bus terminus is about a 10/15 minute walk away. There is a Carrefour Express and a Spar both nearby for any snacks or water which you might need. Enjoy the wonderful H10 if you choose to stay here !
