H10 Puerta de Alcalá, Madrid

We stayed in this hotel last September but Madrid had the most rain for 50 years whilst we were there so we weren't able to do as much as we'd hoped so we came back for round two. We rarely revisit a place/hotel so although we thought it great last time, we were prepared to improve on our previous visit. Last time we booked a room the size of a postage stamp so this time opted for a larger room with a terrace which was an excellent choice. The terrace was amazing and got the full afternoon sun, but there was an electric canopy you could open for shade. It was also very pleasant to sit out there in the evenings too, the road below isn't busy so it's relaxing with views out over the city. Once we'd gone to bed, there was some noise (furniture scraping along the floor) from the roof terrace bar immediately above but we didn't find it very intrusive and it didn't bother us, but might be something to consider if you're a light sleeper. The housekeeping again was excellent. On our previous stay we booked the Stay and Taste (half board) option which was excellent so decided to do that again. Apart from a few dishes the menu had changed and expanded since last year which in the main was positive, although I was disappointed they had stopped doing the baked sweet potato with a crme frache & maple syrup dressing main course. Last time the evening restaurant staff seemed au fait with this half board option and it went like clockwork, this time not so much. We found ourselves having to explain it every time, and kept a close eye on our bills to ensure we only signed off on the drinks we had ordered. Without being too specific, on one particular night we thought we'd stumbled into a Fawlty Towers dinner theatre performance! The buffet breakfast is excellent, I like the way the lower restaurant is laid out with the food counters well away from the tables. It feels spacious and calm. There is lots of choice to suit most tastes and the staff are pleasant and efficient. The reception staff were again very good and helpful. Being a few minutes walk from El Retiro park is also such a bonus, definitely make time to explore it if you can. All in all I would recommend this hotel for a Madrid city break.

The hotel is conveniently located, and is in close proximity to the red line. It is a very modern. Friendly staff and my room was spacious and very clean. Hotel has a roof top terrace which consists of a plunge pool and a small sun bathing area- you require to book a 1 hour slot for the sun bathing area.

Great location and only short walk from the nearest metro station Príncipe De Vergara or Ibiza and the beautiful park Parque Del Rel Retiro. When we arrived we was offered a lovely glass of Cava which was a nice surprise while we checked in. Good sized comfortable bedroom, towels changed daily and rooms made up. Complimentary toiletries and a Nepresso machine in the room. Rooms also have a mini fridge which we used to store water. What was really great about this hotel was the rooftop pool. Yes its not huge but great to cool off in after a day sight seeing especially when Temperatures are hitting 35-40 degrees. You do have to book and out of the 4 days there we managed to book sunbeds for two days we used the pool (you can reserve for an hour per day which seems fair to me to give all guest a chance to use the sunbeds). Yes the elevators are slow in the hotel but its not the end of the world especially a few trips up and down the stairs to walk off the tapas and Rioja. Really had an enjoyable stay. Very modern clean hotel.

This is a 4-star hotel masquerading as a 5-star hotel. I got top notch service here and couldn't wait to rave about it here. We missed our flight and had to find a place stat to call home for one night until we could head back home. We were exhausted and frustrated. They had 1 family room left for us and we made our way there. Our room wasn't ready, so they offered a discount for us to wait in their restaurant. We finally had a chance to relax and stay there for hours! Once I mentioned to them that the room number they gave me matched my son's birthday (which was in a few days), they dropped off a beautiful birthday celebration cake and beverages for us - it was SO nice of them. A very nice touch. And, I had a package I needed to send out before I left the country. It was a weekend and none of the local post offices were open. The front desk did not hesitate to help: they found me a box and put me in touch with a local courier that would handle the shipment for me. This hotel went above and beyond to provide service. It is modern and clean and in the best possible neighborhood. I would love to come stay here again for a longer sojourn!
