Reviews
Beautiful hotel with some small issues to address
Zoe Z

Overall, we (couple 30s-40s) thoroughly enjoyed our stay here but there are some minor issues that the hotel should address which would elevate the experience. PROS We opted for the Privilege package and do not regret it at all. Room: Our room had a beautiful sea view and was situated next to the Privilege pool and foot truck but looking out to the promenade and a small beach nearby which we visited a few times for a swim. It was peaceful and quiet in the evenings, although it is quite a walk to the reception/ main building - this was not a problem for us and in fact preferred this, but for people with mobility issues it might not be ideal. The room itself had some wear (chipped paint, bathroom lamp flickering, and we had a small issue with ants on the sofa which was addressed by maintenance). The beds were OK although the springs on one of the queen beds were worn it seemed. We did sleep really well on the two twins which are pushed together. Food: The main buffet breakfast is very good, although lunch and dinner less so and it gets very hectic it seemed. We ate in the Volcan restaurant most evenings which has a very good a la carte menu and a different special soup/main each night which were excellent when we had them. The Tabaiba is where we had most of our lunches, again, lovely fresh food and good a la carte menu with specials each day. With Privilege you can opt to have breakfast at the volcan which is very good, however we preferred the atmosphere in the buffet although the volcan has additional options (eggs florentine, royale etc) which you cannot get in the buffet. We tried the Sakura restaurant from the three themes ones and it had v high standard of mains, the starters were underwhelming but the atmosphere was great in there. Drinks: The piano bar is beautiful but it gets busy and there are not enough staff to attend to everyone. Drinks are much better than in the pool bar and bistro areas. We spent a few evenings here playing cards and listening to live piano which was lovely and v chilled before heading out. Staff: All the staff we interacted with were professional, courteous, knowledgeable. They always tried to help you. Special thanks to the Maitre Ds at Tabaiba (a Spanish gentleman and Italian lady) who were both very attentive and very good at their jobs kept the restaurant running so well. Fabio in the coffee bar was s helpful and friendly and gave us so many tips on the local area for sightseeing and swimming (thank you!). The maintenance staff always smiled and said hello, guest relations were mostly helpful (the privilege desk workers more so than the main reception). The grounds were always immaculate. CONS: Room key: several times, sometimes more than once a day, our key card would demagnetise and would not unlock our door. This got very irritating quickly as our room was situated a long walk from the main building. The issue was recurrent and staff were aware of this - perhaps moving to app based room entry system would work better, or chip in a wristband where it does not interact with smartphones so much. Pools: We didn't really use the pools much because we were out most days exploring the island and opting to swim in the sea however what we did see is many people reserving beds with towels and nowhere to be seen. there are plenty of pools to choose from which is good. If we had wanted to relax by the pool this might have been an issue on some days and staff should remove these towels or implement some kind of policy to prevent this being an issue. Entertainment: The show was recommended heavily however the food served is atrocious and although the show is quite fun, I would recommend eating at the buffet beforehand (8pm start) because you'll be extremely disappointed with the quality and menu they bring out. I wouldn't go again to be honest. Cannot comment on the other entertainment because it didn't look very good and opted to go out most days/ nights. However, we did witness the watersports from the piano bar one day and the staff leading this looked very committed lol... he was doing a great job. Lifts and maintenance: We only saw one lift working of the two in the main building and there was always a queue, this wasn't a problem for us because we are young and able bodied to take the stairs but they do provide a lovely view going up and down and when taking luggage it is nice to have the option. Beyond this, there are lots of smaller issues when you look closely, bad paintwork, broken door handles, uncovered pipes and wires here are there in rooms and main areas which should be attended to. With this is mind, we absolutely loved this hotel and our stay. We hired a car and had a lot of freedom to see things in the day but had all our meals on site and the quality of food overall was a very good standard especially in the a la carte restaurants which was important to us as foodies. For this reason we'd probably only come back as Privilege guests which to us was worth it. Thank you for some amazing memories and we look forward to coming back!

Great place to stay
D6111IDjohnt

Fantastic resort, great staff and not overcrowded. Nearby restaurants if you get a bit bored with the food. We went half board and paid an extra 200 for our drinks which worked out a bit cheaper then going full board as we both dont drink a lot, 13 euros for large whisky and coke and a beer was a fair price I thought. A few towels put out to reserve the sun beds but plenty of them so not a problem, why staff dont collect them I dont know though, one couple turned up at 4 pm having left their towels on 2 beds by the pool before breakfast.

Great holiday
Peter B

Creat hotel all round upgraded on room and found ourselves on the 7th floor, the room was everything we expected.Food was a good standard and we always had a good choice every day.Did not sample the entertainment much as we like to go out most evenings.great selection of salt water pools and always found spare sun loungers. On the downside I wish I had been told it was a cash less hotel before we arrived, but a solution was found that worked for us.

Rubicon Palace Lanzarote Balance Review
jinxleprechaun

We have recently returned from a 14 night stay at Rubicon palace. This was not our first H10 hotel but it was our first visit to the Rubicon. The holiday did not go without some issues which needed a few frustrating visits to guest services to get sorted (Room location not as expected / Mini bar not being stocked). To be fair though once highlighted guest services did their best to rectify any issues as soon as possible and made small gestures to make amends for the hassle. The resort being so big it could take revisiting to ensure the action is followed up as sometimes the right hand does not know what the left is doing. This invariably involves walking 10 mins to reception each time. Can a telephone not be installed in each block to contact reception in the event of issues outside the room like door keys not working (This occurred approx. 4 times) The resort is quite big and accommodation spread out around the central building but we found this not to be a problem and it was easy to find your way around. The layout is very pretty and the resort looks fantastic, There are several pools and we found the general area to be well kept and clean. At the end of the day some debris does build up and can look untidy but that's people on holidays and when the pool areas are being cleaned the debris is tidied away. There are a lot of uneven and cracked tiles around the resort but there seems to be a rolling maintenance plan to repair them at random areas each day, perhaps to minimise disruption to guests in any one area at a time? Can be a bit annoying to hear the drill breaking up the old tiles but its a catch 22 situation and varying locations each day is probably the best that can be done. There are a variety of pools, all salt water and fairly cold, although after a few minutes the cold does not really be an issue. You can select small quiet pools or the main ones with most of the daily poolside entertainment. The Privilege pool is a nice quiet place but I cannot understand why the pool is so shallow. Its more akin to a children's pool and was not suitable for proper swimming in my opinion. And you would have to forgo the poolside Privilege services to switch to a deeper pool. Entertainment is provided for children and adults but we didn't go to many shows as on this break we just wanted a quiet relaxing retreat but it seemed to be very popular. The Dinner show was a nice distraction and we would recommend that. Piano bar is classy and comfortable with music but can get very busy with queues at the bar especially for cocktails. This could definitely be improved upon. The Privilege lounge area is a self service bar area where you can get away from the crowd and be guaranteed a seat when things get a little busier. Drinks menu online displays Imported Beers as an option but in reality there is only Estrella. Bit of a disappointment there :-( We had lunch at the buffet on one occasion and although the restaurant is clean and spacious we found flagging a waiter to order drinks more difficult that it ought to be and never managed to get them by the time our lunch was finished. Are there not enough waiters? Are they not attentive enough to see you are eating with no drinks? We are very down to earth people so its fair to say improvement is needed there. We had upgraded to Privilege and dined mostly at the Volcan restaurant where we can say the food was excellent, served in great surroundings by friendly attentive staff and in our opinion was probably worth the upgrade all by itself. We tried Sakura and Dolce Vitae speciality restaurants which we found good but again not nearly as good as Volcan. We avoided the Steakhouse based on a trend in past reviews of the resort so cannot comment on that one ,and this is perhaps a warning to management to realise that more people analyse trends in reviews to get the real picture and make travel decisions based on these. This brings me to the one thing that muddied the water for us the most during our stay. I'm seeing a trend in reviews that the staff in Mike's coffee shop and the Bistro can be rude and I can add to this from our personal experience. We acknowledge that service can be slower than at home and there is a hot weather factor there too but there are limits. The Bistro service was a little slow and not in order of guests arriving which can be a little irritating but not the end of the World. Mikes coffee shop however was a different story. We were ignored for over 20mins after we sat down and attempts to get the waiter's attention as he passed by were frustratingly constantly blanked. I went inside and asked why he wouldn't serve us and was abruptly confronted by the girl behind the counter who raised her voice and started admonishing in a raised voice for daring to ask such a thing. This was beyond rude, especially when she came around to our side of the counter to face off with me. We made a complaint to guest services but have no idea if it was followed up or not. This left us shaken and we did not revisit Mikes for the rest of the holiday, It certainly was a black mark on the resort and our holiday, and seeing as it appears not to be an isolated occurrence I'm concerned that management are not addressing the problem for some reason. I know management will thank us for our constructive feedback and highlight the positives and say they will strive to improve like the stock reply to almost all reviewers on this thread but I would like to see actual resolutions being put in place which seem to be lacking based on common trends and their continuing occurrences. (Mikes coffee shop for one) In general Rubicon Palace is a great family resort which looks beautiful and with plenty of things to do. the vast majority of staff are hard working and friendly and I would not hesitate to revisit although they need to be more proactive than reactive and put structures in place to make this happen. I do believe that the management structure genuinely wants this too and they do their best to sort things out as soon as possible.
