H10 Hotels opens the H10 Imperial Tarraco in Tarragona, an iconic urban hotel that the company has reopened as a 4-star superior hotel after a full renovation that has taken two years to complete. The establishment – the first H10 hotel to open in the city – occupies an excellent location on the seafront, next to the Roman amphitheatre. The project has the same volume of the original building, which dates back to 1963, thereby preserving its original essence; but the interior spaces have been completely restructured, creating more spacious rooms and reconfiguring the hotel’s common areas. Spectacular new spaces have therefore been created, including the impressive terrace of the top floor with privileged 360° views, as well as new meeting rooms with sea views and the Despacio Beauty Centre wellness centre. The rooms have also been reconfigured to make them larger and provide them with excellent sea views. The refurbished H10 Imperial Tarraco also has high-end facilities and services, including the Alta Mare gourmet restaurant, the Lobby Bar, a garden area with two swimming pools − one of them for children − and three rooms for meetings and private event. In addition, on the top floor the hotel features the Caelum Rooftop Bar with plunge pool and sun lounger area, with magnificent views of the sea and the historic city centre. The hotel is located in the heart of the city of Tarragona, absolutely perfect for discovering the city’s historical roots and close to its main points of interest. Just metres from the hotel, you can find the Roman amphitheatre, Tarragona Cathedral, Balcó del Mediterrani viewing area and much of the archaeological excavations from the ancient Roman city of Tarraco, which, because of its historical importance, was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Tarragona is also the main city in the Costa Daurada, known for its magnificent beaches, and features a wide range of restaurants specializing in fish and seafood, as well as a large variety of shops. Other points of interest are the PortAventura & Ferrari Land theme park, which is only 20 minutes away by car and is ideal for families and thrill seekers, as well as the Priorat region, known for its vineyards and range of wine-related activities and located 50 km from Tarragona. H10 Imperial Tarraco’s architecture and interior design project, led by the prestigious Lázaro Rosa-Violán studio, has the Mediterranean as its backdrop.
The building’s impressive positioning on the coast inspires the concept of a ship moored in the city's port. This is the starting point for the project, in which blues and whites bring the sea’s presence into every room, along with red ochre fabrics and Mediterranean crafts, evoking bulrushes and terracotta. Nautical elements are combined with large Roman-inspired murals and sculptures, which can be seen in the hotel’s common areas. The prominent role that the sea and the city’s history play in the hotel’s design make the establishment fit in perfectly with its surroundings. The hotel greets guests from an utterly unique Front Desk, where they are welcomed by an impressive terracotta wall and a large Roman sculpture. An elegant lobby opens up on the same floor, featuring a warm and cosy design that has been achieved using natural light, oak parquet flooring interspersed with ceramic, velvet armchairs and sofas in orange tones combined with white marble tables, and other wooden elements that give the space a vintage feel, making it the ideal corner to sit down to read or unwind. The Circus Bar, with an outdoor terrace overlooking the sea and the gardens, is located in this space. The Alta Mare Restaurant, with its modern, fresh and equally elegant atmosphere where you can taste Mediterranean and market cuisine, can also be accessed from here. The H10 Imperial Tarraco features 144 bright and spacious rooms, which give them the quietest and most comfortable atmosphere possible. The establishment has Classic and Classic Essential Rooms, Mare Junior Suites, Deluxe Mare Rooms, Imperial Tarraco Suites and the Honeymoon Suite. These rooms also have a clear Mediterranean inspiration, with white and blue as the main colours. This makes for rooms that are bathed in natural light, the majority of which having excellent views of the Mediterranean. The large headboard above the beds stands out, made with sailor’s knots to give the room a nautical feel, which is completed by sea-themed designs, wooden furniture, Majorcan blinds and terraces furnished with hydraulic tile flooring in a modernist style. They are all equipped will all of the amenities, and have a Smart TV with international channels, USB ports, a Nespresso coffee machine that is restocked daily, Minibar and in-room safe, individually adjustable climate control system, professional hairdryer, magnifying mirror and rain shower. Notable among the hotel’s rooms is the Mare Junior Suite, with spacious suites that include a bedroom with a lounge area as well as a terrace overlooking the sea.
There are also the exclusive Imperial Tarraco Suites, which feature two different spaces: a bedroom and a separate living room with sofa bed, as well as a terrace that also overlooks the coast; the Honeymoon Suite, a room reserved for very special occasions or important dates, decorated with romantic details for enjoying unforgettable moments together as a couple. The large terrace has an outdoor jacuzzi with sea views. They all feature spectacular views of the Roman amphitheatre. The H10 Imperial Tarraco features the Alta Mare Restaurant, a cosy space with large windows from which the sea and the hotel gardens can both be seen, and the ideal place for enjoying exquisite Mediterranean cuisine. Among the options offered by its chef David Orejo, dishes that stand out include the black rice with baby squid, vegetable fideuá, deboned lamb, and turbot with creamy rice and cockles. The restaurant, which is open in the afternoon and at night, also offers a daily menu for guests and the general public. The Circus Bar offers a pleasant atmosphere for enjoying a cocktail, vermouth or wine in its indoor space or on the terrace, with pleasant views of the sea and the hotel gardens, which are home to unique flora – including oleander and a hundred-year-old olive tree – that grant them a special personality and relaxing atmosphere. On the top floor is the jewel of the hotel, the Caelum Rooftop Bar; it features a glassed-in area and an impressive terrace located in a unique corner of the city, in front of the sea and overlooking the city of Tarragona. The open-air terrace has a quiet atmosphere for getting away from your daily routine and enjoying a relaxed, casual and fresh menu including tapas and shared dishes; or an apéritif or cocktail while taking in the excellent views of the Mediterranean, the Roman amphitheatre and the Tarragona Cathedral. In addition, it has a spectacular plunge pool and solarium with a sun lounger area. The indoor space features marine blue Majorcan blinds and a ceramic floor in a white and blue colour that mimics the mosaics of a swimming pool – details that perfectly integrate the covered space into the Rooftop’s outdoor space.
