Stayed dec for four nights. Nice friendly check in by Jose. Been here four times before and always enjoyed. Emailed before to ask for certain type of rooms. We did get the room type however one of the two rooms overlooked a rubbish dump, a horrible view. We went to customer relations and he arranged for another room, no fuss and that room was lovely. Enjoyed the buffet, food was varied, hot and tasty. They always have proper English back bacon on the grill and English sausages. We went to the Italian but unfortunately it wasnt to our liking, the food was bland and lukewarm and no one refilled our wine as well as slow service. Great coffee and great desserts in the buffet . Service in buffet was fast and efficient and attentive. Beautiful reception where the bar is. Service in the bar was quick and attentive despite reading before we went it wasnt. The silent disco was hilarious and such fun, we laughed and danced. The young lady singing the night after was also very good. Top quality drinks. Hotel always very clean. Nice rooms with good bathrooms. Friendly staff. Nice walks either side as you walk out back of hotel. Bus stop right outside. Yes the glass in lifts was cracked, yes there are some cracks in few tiles but did it bother us, no. Lots of sun beds around great swimming pools. Will we continue to go to the Rubicon yes most definitely. Lovely sitting outside Mikes coffee shop enjoying the coffee. NB note to management: please if you offer treats for H10 members ie cava in room, welcome gift, chocolates etc please deliver them. Despite email asking for them before and asking at customer relations on day one, I had to go and ask different lady, a lovely lady called georgina for them. Second year running. A small thing but make a difference.

A nice hotel, but not a 5 star
stevecG9570VF

Arrived late afternoon. I had already checked in on the app, which made check in pretty quick. The app is really good and its so easy to book the speciality restaurants. It gives all the restaurant menus, entertainment programs and drinks menus, so well worth using it.. We were half board and the girl on reception who was lovely, tried selling us the AI upgrade at 47 Euros per person per night. We dont drink much alcohol so not worth it for us. We bought those green water bottles at 4 euros and you can fill them up in the pool bar, disco and piano bar free. We were allocated room 6020 on the same level as reception. After walking for what seemed forever on a maze of corridors we opened our balcony doors to find our garden view full of builders skips.! The room was nice pretty clean, beds comfy. We thought hell its only one week so we unpacked, had a quick look around and went for dinner. You have to pay for water in the restaurant so we filled our bottles and took our own water in. The food was good, plenty of choice. The salads were lovely. The only criticism I had was the food wasnt hot. Sleep quality was good. First thing, tried using the lift to get down to the pool area and it opened onto a building site on level 4 and couldnt go any further so used the steps. All other lifts in and around our room were out of order. The pool areas are big spacious, with plenty of sun beds. We had breakfast and anyone wanting English breakfast forget about it. The bacon was like eating a piece of slate, proper teeth breakers. Hence my first day was my last day at trying the English breakfast. There was good choice of fruit, yogurt, the porridge was good and also omelettes etc. The choice of bread is shocking and the sliced bread was stale. Coffee from the machines is good. Tea you mashed your own with cheap nasty English Breakfast tea bag, from the hot water machine. We noticed during the day when we went back to the room noise from the refurb work below, so on our way to dinner that evening we made an enquiry about a room change. The girl on reception was really helpful and found us another room on the same floor and asked if we wanted to go a pack and move now. We went to look at it and said great we will move.We were going into Playa Blanca, so asked if we could do it first thing in the morning, she said fine at 8 am. I went to reception at 8am and was greeted by an older man who was standoffish and unhelpful. He said the room wasnt ready, which I knew it was. This guy needs some customer service training and a personality transplant. Anyway he said housekeeping needed to check and they would call me. They didnt call, but I went back after breakfast and spoke to the young girl who was very helpful and did the changeover straight away. The room was lovely overlooking the pool with afternoon sun. We had booked our three speciality restaurants and our first visit to the Asian restaurant was nice. Food quality was pretty decent. We had booked the Steakhouse for the following evening, but after speaking to someone we cancelled after they said it wasnt good and too much like fast food. We ventured into Playa Blanca a couple of times by catching the no30 bus straight outside the hotel. Buses are every 15 mins and the fare is 1.30 Euros. One of my main things that bugged me was how slow the lift was in main reception. Its a good job it had a glass window to admire the view or I would have dropped to sleep it took so long! There are two lifts in reception, but one was continuously out of order. With how long they take you would think they would show some urgency in having them both operating. The lift doors also tends to close very quickly. One woman trapped and bruised her arm. On our last night we went to the Italian and the food and service was very nice. Also the Wifi was a bit hit and miss depending where you were sat in the hotel. I used my phone data quite a bit. If your AI and like your beer. There is no choice on draft apart from Estrella. If you want a bottle of bud or Heineken you have to pay extra for it. All cocktails were included in AI. The rest of our stay was very relaxing, enjoyed it. We always found plenty we could eat in the buffet restaurants. If you werent AI you had to buy water at 3 euro ( which is bang out of order and does their reputation no favours), so we took our green water bottles filled free from the piano bar. . The hotel is looking tired and in need of refurbishment and a lick of paint in some areas. All in all a pretty decent hotel and holiday. Would I return? Dont think so. I would rather go to the Gran Castillo. We all have our own opinions and some may rave about this hotel, however for my rating Im giving it 4 stars at a push. If there had been 3.5 star option thats what it would have got. Tipsbook the restaurants on the app as soon as you get there. Half board, buy the green water bottles and fill them up free at the piano and pool bar. If you like a decent pot of tea take your own tea bags If you like your coffee take your own mug Last day swapped our dinner for lunch.

10/10 Experience!!!

* couple in our 20s * Stunning, clean hotel with lovely staff & lots of extra facilities including a great gym, on site cafe etc. Rooms were always clean & a great size. Food was great, Im always sceptical about buffet style restaurants but there was a lot of choice and always cooked fresh if you requested it and there were other restaurants to eat at which we had 2 included in our all inclusive stay of 5 days. Would 100% stay here again for longer in the future and have recommended to friends & family

Rubicon Palace Lanzarote Balance Review
jinxleprechaun

We have recently returned from a 14 night stay at Rubicon palace. This was not our first H10 hotel but it was our first visit to the Rubicon. The holiday did not go without some issues which needed a few frustrating visits to guest services to get sorted (Room location not as expected / Mini bar not being stocked). To be fair though once highlighted guest services did their best to rectify any issues as soon as possible and made small gestures to make amends for the hassle. The resort being so big it could take revisiting to ensure the action is followed up as sometimes the right hand does not know what the left is doing. This invariably involves walking 10 mins to reception each time. Can a telephone not be installed in each block to contact reception in the event of issues outside the room like door keys not working (This occurred approx. 4 times) The resort is quite big and accommodation spread out around the central building but we found this not to be a problem and it was easy to find your way around. The layout is very pretty and the resort looks fantastic, There are several pools and we found the general area to be well kept and clean. At the end of the day some debris does build up and can look untidy but that's people on holidays and when the pool areas are being cleaned the debris is tidied away. There are a lot of uneven and cracked tiles around the resort but there seems to be a rolling maintenance plan to repair them at random areas each day, perhaps to minimise disruption to guests in any one area at a time? Can be a bit annoying to hear the drill breaking up the old tiles but its a catch 22 situation and varying locations each day is probably the best that can be done. There are a variety of pools, all salt water and fairly cold, although after a few minutes the cold does not really be an issue. You can select small quiet pools or the main ones with most of the daily poolside entertainment. The Privilege pool is a nice quiet place but I cannot understand why the pool is so shallow. Its more akin to a children's pool and was not suitable for proper swimming in my opinion. And you would have to forgo the poolside Privilege services to switch to a deeper pool. Entertainment is provided for children and adults but we didn't go to many shows as on this break we just wanted a quiet relaxing retreat but it seemed to be very popular. The Dinner show was a nice distraction and we would recommend that. Piano bar is classy and comfortable with music but can get very busy with queues at the bar especially for cocktails. This could definitely be improved upon. The Privilege lounge area is a self service bar area where you can get away from the crowd and be guaranteed a seat when things get a little busier. Drinks menu online displays Imported Beers as an option but in reality there is only Estrella. Bit of a disappointment there :-( We had lunch at the buffet on one occasion and although the restaurant is clean and spacious we found flagging a waiter to order drinks more difficult that it ought to be and never managed to get them by the time our lunch was finished. Are there not enough waiters? Are they not attentive enough to see you are eating with no drinks? We are very down to earth people so its fair to say improvement is needed there. We had upgraded to Privilege and dined mostly at the Volcan restaurant where we can say the food was excellent, served in great surroundings by friendly attentive staff and in our opinion was probably worth the upgrade all by itself. We tried Sakura and Dolce Vitae speciality restaurants which we found good but again not nearly as good as Volcan. We avoided the Steakhouse based on a trend in past reviews of the resort so cannot comment on that one ,and this is perhaps a warning to management to realise that more people analyse trends in reviews to get the real picture and make travel decisions based on these. This brings me to the one thing that muddied the water for us the most during our stay. I'm seeing a trend in reviews that the staff in Mike's coffee shop and the Bistro can be rude and I can add to this from our personal experience. We acknowledge that service can be slower than at home and there is a hot weather factor there too but there are limits. The Bistro service was a little slow and not in order of guests arriving which can be a little irritating but not the end of the World. Mikes coffee shop however was a different story. We were ignored for over 20mins after we sat down and attempts to get the waiter's attention as he passed by were frustratingly constantly blanked. I went inside and asked why he wouldn't serve us and was abruptly confronted by the girl behind the counter who raised her voice and started admonishing in a raised voice for daring to ask such a thing. This was beyond rude, especially when she came around to our side of the counter to face off with me. We made a complaint to guest services but have no idea if it was followed up or not. This left us shaken and we did not revisit Mikes for the rest of the holiday, It certainly was a black mark on the resort and our holiday, and seeing as it appears not to be an isolated occurrence I'm concerned that management are not addressing the problem for some reason. I know management will thank us for our constructive feedback and highlight the positives and say they will strive to improve like the stock reply to almost all reviewers on this thread but I would like to see actual resolutions being put in place which seem to be lacking based on common trends and their continuing occurrences. (Mikes coffee shop for one) In general Rubicon Palace is a great family resort which looks beautiful and with plenty of things to do. the vast majority of staff are hard working and friendly and I would not hesitate to revisit although they need to be more proactive than reactive and put structures in place to make this happen. I do believe that the management structure genuinely wants this too and they do their best to sort things out as soon as possible.
