Mallorca, much more than sun and sand

Museums

Culture vultures and art lovers will have no shortage of museums to visit. Most of the museums are in the centre of Palma de Mallorca. One of the most famous is the Museum of Contemporary Art Es Baluard, next to the park of Sa Faixina. Special mention must be made of the Pilar and Joan Miró Foundation, in Cala Mayor, which narrates the life  and work of the Catalan artist.

Shopping

You can spend a day out shopping in Palma de Mallorca while also admiring its famous monuments. Most of the fashion stores are in the city centre. The main streets are Avenida Jaime III and the Paseo del Borne, la Vía Sindicato and Calle San Miguel. Another option is the Shopping Mall of Porto Pi, there are also many shops and cinemas, a hypermarket and restaurants.

Visit the rest of the islands

If you visit Palma de Mallorca, an excursion to see the rest of the islands is also highly recommendable. The Island of Cabrera is a protected natural beauty spot. The towns of Valldemossa and Formentor are also well worth a visit.

Parks and gardens

The best-known and most-frequented park in Palma de Mallorca is the Parque del Mar, at the foot of the Cathedral. The Gardens of S'Hort del Rei or the Park of Sa Faxina, together with the well-known restaurant area, Santa Catalina, are also a standout.

Theme parks

Come and visit Palma Aquarium, one of the largest in Europe, to see hundreds of sea species or spend the day with the family in Marineland, a unique experience with dolphins and seals.

Night Life

The neighbourhood of Santa Catalina de Palma de Mallorca is all the rage. In recent years, many restaurants have opened and it has become a hive of activity. You can have dinner there and then go for a drink in one of the pubs in the area.

For the even higher-spirited, the favourite spot for a night on the town in Mallorca is the Promenade, where there are plenty of places to have a great time. There are pubs for dancing salsa, or big discotheques. If you like more commercial music, then the area at the end of the Promenade, near Porto Pi, is the place for you, where you will also find the island's best-known discotheques and bars.
