La Palma

La Palma, whose historic name is San Miguel de La Palma, is an island in the Atlantic ocean belonging to the Canary Islands archipelago (Spain). It belongs to the province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, its capital is Santa Cruz de la Palma, and the island's most populated municipality is Los Llanos de Aridane. The whole island was declared a Biosphere Reserve in 2002, making it the archipelago's third island, after La Gomera and El Hierro, to be recognised by the UNESCO.
